By GNA

March 15, 2011
Accra, March 15, GNA - The University College of Agriculture and Environmental Studies (UCAES), Bunso, has been granted three years' Institutional Accreditation to run educational programmes on Food Production, Environmental Protection and Improved Standard of Living.

The decision was made by the National Accreditation Board at its 77th Meeting held on December 16 and 17 2010, a statement from the Office of the Okyenhene announced on Tuesday.

By the decision, the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Council has become the first Traditional Council to establish a higher academic institution, the statement which was signed by Barima Yentumi Boaman, Chief of Staff at the Office of the Okyenhene, and copied to the Ghana News Agency in Accra said.

The statement recalled that the Council blazed the trail of history to establish the Abuakwa State College, Kyebi in 1936.

The statement said the university had been conceived as a unique institution to address natural science challenges in Africa and to find solutions to solve constraints to the living styles of Africans.

"The Council will want all Ghanaians to know that UCAES is like any other national university and will operate as a non-profit organisation open to all citizens," it said.

The statement said further publications announcing admission processes for prospective students would be published later.
