An elderly man allegedly threw a stone at a resident after he was caught dumping refuse into the Odaw River near Paraku Junction at Dome in the Greater Accra Region.
The incident, which has since sparked reactions on social media, reportedly occurred when the man was seen emptying bags of waste into the river. Concerned residents, who witnessed the act, began recording the incident to expose what they described as an environmental offense that contributes to persistent flooding in the area.
According to eyewitnesses, the elderly man became visibly agitated after realizing he was being filmed. In an attempt to stop the recording, he allegedly picked up a stone and hurled it at the individual capturing the video. Fortunately, no injuries were immediately reported.
Residents expressed frustration over the continued practice of indiscriminate waste disposal into drains and rivers, noting that such actions significantly obstruct water flow and worsen flooding during heavy rainfall.
The Odaw River has long been identified as one of the major waterways affected by indiscriminate dumping of refuse, with environmental experts and city authorities repeatedly warning that the practice poses serious environmental and public health risks.
