Ghana's governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) has entered into a cooperation agreement with Russia's ruling United Russia party, with both parties committing to strengthen political relations and expand collaboration among political organisations across Africa.
The agreement was signed on June 25, 2026, in Saint Petersburg during a working meeting of the Standing Committee of the For the Freedom of Nations! Movement.
The signing followed discussions between the National Chairman of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, and Andrei Klimov, a member of the Supreme Council Bureau of United Russia.
According to a statement, both parties acknowledged the growing parliamentary engagement between Ghana and Russia and agreed to deepen cooperation between their respective political organisations.
During the discussions, Dr. Asiedu Nketia recognised Russia's historical role, as the successor state to the Soviet Union, in supporting the struggle against colonialism and reaffirmed the NDC's commitment to the principles and objectives of the For the Freedom of Nations! Movement.
The two parties also agreed to promote stronger cooperation among political parties across the African continent, with particular attention to strengthening ties in West Africa.
They further stressed the importance of enhancing political engagement in the lead up to the third Russia–Africa Summit, describing the meeting as an important platform for expanding cooperation between Russia and African countries.
The cooperation agreement marks another step in the growing political engagement between the NDC and United Russia and builds on the broader diplomatic and parliamentary relations between Ghana and Russia.
