Banda Nkwanta, June 25, GNA - One person died on admission at the Banda Nkwanta Health Centre, near Bole in the Northern Region whilst four others were rushed to the Kintampo Hospital for treatment, after eating a kokonte meal.
Seven persons died two years ago in Chache in the Bole District after eating a similar kokonte meal.
Briefing the press in an interview, a Community Health Nurse at the Centre, Miss Fataya Sulley said the deceased, Liefeufa Kwabena, 10, who was rushed to the Centre while vomiting, died shortly before he was attended to.
According to her, Madam Afia Kwabena 32 years and her three other children including Kwaku Kwabena, Ruth Kwabena and Rudolf Kwabena, also started vomiting immediately after the death of their brother.
According to the mother, the family took a meal of kokonte the previous night, which she suspected, was poisoned.
The four were given first aid treatment and then rushed to the Kintampo Hospital in the Brong Ahafo Region where they were treated and discharged.
Liefeufa has since been buried.
