Former Education Minister and Bosomtwe MP, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, has urged Communications Minister Samuel Nartey George to adopt a more measured approach to leadership, cautioning against what he described as an increasingly confrontational and arrogant attitude in the discharge of his duties.

Speaking on Kessben TV, Dr Adutwum criticised some of the minister's recent public statements and conduct, describing certain remarks as “wild” and suggesting that he was becoming overly pompous.

He argued that Sam George's approach was creating unnecessary friction with several stakeholders and could eventually undermine his effectiveness as a minister by alienating people whose cooperation and support were important to his work.

Dr Adutwum reminded the Ningo-Prampram MP that political power and ministerial appointments were temporary, urging him to remain conscious of the fact that his current position would not last forever.

“Power is transient. You cannot behave as though you will be in that position forever. You have to understand that the position you occupy today is not permanent, so you must be humble in the way you exercise your authority,” he cautioned.

The former Education Minister's comments come amid public debate over Sam George's position on the exercise of regulatory powers as Communications Minister.

The Ningo-Prampram MP has attracted attention following remarks suggesting that he could shut down politically and religiously affiliated radio stations that fail to comply with applicable broadcasting regulations.

His comments have triggered discussions about the scope of ministerial authority and the relationship between government officials and media organisations.

Dr Adutwum warned that an uncompromising approach to leadership could push important stakeholders away and turn potential allies into opponents.

He stressed that occupying public office required more than the ability to exercise authority, noting that humility, restraint and composure were essential qualities for effective leadership.

His remarks come days after Sam George was involved in a heated exchange with a soldier in his Ningo-Prampram constituency.
