The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, has said President John Dramani Mahama's administration is performing better than the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) government.
He said the general mood of the country suggests that Ghanaians are more satisfied with the current administration than they were during the NPP's eight years in office.
The NDC Chief Scribe made the remarks on Accra-based Metro TV's Good Morning Ghana programme on Tuesday, November 3, while responding to criticisms from the opposition NPP.
“On the whole, I will tell you that, checking the mood of the country, I see that largely the mood of this country is that this government is doing far, far, far, far better job than we saw in the last eight years under the NPP,” he said.
The NDC General Secretary accused the opposition of searching for scandals in an attempt to discredit the Mahama administration and regain public support.
He said the NPP has failed to appreciate what he described as a more discerning Ghanaian electorate that could no longer be easily manipulated by political messaging.
“Our friends from the other side haven't learned at all. Ghanaians have become super discerning, and therefore you cannot simply gaslight Ghanaians anymore. You can't manipulate. You can lie to Ghanaians anymore,” he added.
However, Mr Kwetey acknowledged that the current government has areas in which it needs to improve, noting that not every decision or action of the administration should be defended.
He urged members of the governing party to acknowledge shortcomings and take steps to address them while also recognising the government's achievements.
