Justice For African Boy Javits Frimpong-The World Must Bow Its Head In Shame

I am writing this with a heavy heart.
Javits Badu Nkansah Frimpong, who arrived in the Bronx- New York, from Africa a year ago to be with his father, was chased and shot dead on his way to school on Thursday, October 29th, near Crotona in the Bronx. He was shot in the abdomen and died at St. Barnabas Hospital. His father Thomas Frimpong said he was a quiet boy and that the school had called him days before that he was being bullied. Three teenagers are still being looked for, no arrests yet.

I saw in the news that NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani tweeted on X that he spoke to President Trump and Trump has agreed to grant visa immediately to his mother to come and say goodbye. With respect, that is not what is important. What is important is strict justice.

Mr. Mayor, you should call Mr. President again and tell him that investigation should be intensified to bring the killers to book and bring strict punishment to serve as a deterrent to others. A visa for a grieving mother is compassion, but justice for her son is what will heal her.

If an American can come and live freely in Africa, walk our streets, teach, do business, sleep in our homes without fear, why can't our son walk to school in America? This is not the first time this is happening to our boys there.

This is archaic. This is barbaric. And it is painful that it happened in America, a country that calls itself the headquarters of democracy, 250 years plus of democracy.

We Africans are painted as primitive, archaic, backward. But show me where we do this? The African is hospitable by nature. In Africa, we treat the stranger even better than our own. We will kill the fattest animal for the stranger to eat whilst we eat the thin one. That is what makes us African. That is where Ubuntu comes from, I am because we are. A person is a person through other people. Africa is indeed a Mother. She feeds the stranger first.

I remember my days as a student at University of Ghana, Legon, Department for the Study of Religions. As a Pan Africanist, I took Magic and Witchcraft, a course under African Indigenous Religions (AIRs) option, instead of choosing Christianity or Islam- a course where about 70% were foreigners, about 40% were whites. There was no bullying, no racism. It felt like they were schooling in their own home country.

I had a close friend, Georgina Linnith Quinn (Georgie) from Chico, California. A white American. She told me plainly, "I am from the US but I choose Ghana as my second home." Ghana is hospitable, Ghana is accommodating. At some point she wanted to visit my parents' home- that is how at home she felt.

My parents accommodated two white Canadian ladies who came to Ghana for a humanitarian project, people they knew from nowhere, in their home for a night or two. Growing up, we played with white Americans, they came to our home, we went to theirs, no segregation.

So if we, Africans, who they say are primitive, know how to love and accommodate a stranger, how can those who claim to be civilized still be living in the 1930s?

I am calling on the President of Ghana, the ECOWAS Chair, the AU Chair, the President of America, and the UN. The world has come too far.

And to the President of Ghana- Mr. President, you should not sit aloof. You must rise and demand justice. Call your counterpart. Let your voice be heard loud that Ghana demands strict, uncompromising justice for Javits. But it should not be Ghana alone.

I call on the ECOWAS Chair and the AU Chair to also stand up. Let Africa speak with one voice. Our sons abroad must know that not only Ghana stands behind them, but Africa stands behind them.

Let this be a wake-up call for Africans to come together and unite. Without Africa, the world would still be in the 1930s. The tech, the oil, the gold, the diamond that built America and Europe- it all came from Africa.

Let our leaders do the right thing so our children can enjoy this enviable continent that God called the paradise of the earth.

Africa will always be the better place to live. Because in Africa, a stranger is a brother.

Justice for Javits. Not visa. Strict justice.

Happy New Month. Welcome to November. May God protect our children.
