Rehabilitation works have begun on the McCarthy-Mallam Junction stretch of the Accra-Cape Coast Highway following persistent complaints about potholes, deteriorating road conditions and traffic congestion.
A visit by Citi News on Sunday, October 25, showed work underway on the stretch, raising hopes of relief for motorists who regularly endure long delays along the busy corridor.
The development comes amid renewed calls for urgent repairs to damaged sections of the highway, which have disrupted traffic and made commuting between Kasoa and Accra increasingly difficult.
On October 19, 2026, the Member of Parliament for Weija-Gbawe, Jerry Ahmed Shaib, petitioned the Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, to order urgent repairs to the Weija Junction-to-Mallam section.
In the petition, Mr Shaib said a journey that should ordinarily take about three minutes between Weija Junction and Mallam could take more than two hours because of extensive potholes and the deteriorating road surface.

He called on the Ghana Highway Authority and other relevant agencies to inspect the affected stretch and undertake immediate repairs to improve traffic flow and ease commuters' difficulties.
The highway is a key route for residents and motorists travelling between Kasoa, Winneba, Weija-Gbawe and several parts of Accra, including Kaneshie, Odorkor and Dansoman.
The poor road conditions have also raised concerns about road safety and vehicle maintenance costs, as motorists manoeuvre around potholes and damaged sections that can increase the risk of accidents and damage to tyres and suspension systems.
Previous reports have highlighted flooding and poor drainage along parts of the Kasoa-Mallam corridor, particularly around the SCC-Old Barrier stretch, where wastewater flowing onto the road has contributed to carriageway deterioration and traffic congestion.
