Media personality Baaba Cann has criticised the administration of Obuasi Senior High Technical School (SHTS) over its handling of allegations of sexual misconduct involving the school’s headmaster, Zakaria Abdulai.
Speaking on United Showbiz, Baaba Cann expressed concern about what she described as the administration’s failure to publicly address the allegations, questioning whether efforts were being made to protect the headmaster instead of addressing the concerns raised.
She argued that the issue may not have attracted widespread attention if the female student and her father had not reported the alleged incident to the police.
Baaba Cann questioned the apparent reluctance of the school authorities to speak openly about the matter, stressing that school administrations have a responsibility to safeguard students and take allegations of sexual abuse seriously.
She also took issue with some political figures who have reportedly sought to justify or defend the headmaster amid the controversy.
According to her, the priority should be to establish the facts surrounding the allegations and ensure accountability, rather than defend individuals accused of serious misconduct.
The controversy led the Ghana Education Service (GES) to interdict Zakaria Abdulai on October 14, 2026, pending a full investigation into the allegations.
The Ministry of Education has also referred the matter to the Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana Police Service for further investigation.
