Two men have sustained injuries after a diesel tanker crashed into a shop beneath a storey building at Asamankese in the Eastern Region.

The accident occurred on Thursday, October 22, when the tanker, with registration number LA 3243-25, was travelling from Suhum towards Kade.

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) said preliminary findings pointed to brake failure as the cause of the crash.

“Preliminary findings indicate brake failure while travelling from Suhum to Kade,” the GNFS said in a statement issued on Friday, October 23.

The Suhum Municipal Fire Station dispatched a six-member crew led by ASTNO Kissiedu Alexander after receiving a distress call at 4:46 a.m.

The crew arrived at the scene at 5:52 a.m. and found that the tanker had crashed into the shop, leaving both the vehicle's head and the shop partially damaged.

“No person was trapped,” the statement added.

The firefighters concluded their operations and left the scene at 8:36 a.m.
