The Paramount Chief of the Kolgo Traditional Area, His Royal Majesty Naba Clifford A. Asobayire, has questioned the essence in investing heavily in a 24-Hour Economy Market when communities such as Kolgo lack police stations, checkpoints and security personnel.
Naba Asobayire made the remarks on 22nd October, 2026, at the Regional Composite Budget Hearing held at the Kasena Nankana Municipal Assembly Hall.
Stakeholders Question Government
The forum brought together chiefs, heads of institutions, members of the Regional Coordinating Council, the Upper East Regional Minister, Representatives from the Ministry of Finance, Municipal and District Chief Executives, Assembly members and other stakeholders.
Participants were invited to give comments, suggestions and ask questions on the government's plans and priorities.
Concern Over Budget Priorities
During the comments and questions session, Naba Asobayire, who has consistently pressed government for development in his area, observed that the Kasena Nankana Municipal Assembly's budget focuses mainly on education and health. He noted that a substantial amount has also been allocated to complete the 24-Hour Economy Market in the area.
He asked what the benefit of the market would be to the people of Kolgo if it is completed, suggesting that residents may not be able to trade there without adequate security.
He pointed out that Kolgo is one of the largest communities in the Municipality, yet no police station has been built and staffed to protect lives and property and guarantee the safety of residents.
Without Security, Other Sectors Are Meaningless
The Paramount Chief stressed that security is the foundation of all other development.
"If we're not safe, we cannot go to work. If we are not protected, our children cannot go to school, our women cannot go to the market, and even farmers cannot go to their farms. This shows how crucial security is in our daily lives," Naba Asobayire stated.
Commendation for MP James Agalga
Naba Asobayire also commended the Member of Parliament for Builsa North, Hon. James Agalga, for his interventions in his constituency.
"I recommend the MP for Sandema, James Agalga. He has done a lot for his people. He is also on the news for building schools, CHPS compounds and supporting women. He has done a lot," the Chief said.
He urged other Members of Parliament to emulate Hon. Agalga's example and undertake similar development projects in their own constituencies.
Call for Investment in Builsa South
Turning to Builsa South, the Paramount Chief noted that the area is predominantly agrarian with fertile land for farming. He appealed to government to invest substantially in the area to create jobs for the youth, women and other residents.
