Kumasi. A 15-year-old boy who was allegedly kidnapped at Buoban, a community in Kumasi, has been rescued in Togo and is now in the care of Togolese authorities, according to a report by Zuria FM on October 16, 2026.
The station said a Good Samaritan in Togo found the boy and handed him over to the authorities there. Zuria FM interviewed the boy's father, Mallam Mohammed Kamel. The station said more details will follow, and the circumstances of the alleged abduction have not been made public.
The case raises several questions that remain unanswered. It is not yet clear when the boy went missing, how he was taken across the border, or who was behind it. Nothing in the report indicates whether Ghanaian police or immigration officials have been involved, or whether any suspects have been identified. Nor has it been stated when the boy will be reunited with his family, or how his return will be arranged.
Cross-border child abductions from Kumasi are not unheard of. In an earlier case reported by the Ghana News Agency, a 12-year-old boy allegedly being trafficked from Kumasi to Nigeria was rescued at the Togo-Benin border and handed over to Ghanaian border authorities at Aflao. The Ketu District Office of NADMO then worked to reunite him with his parents in Kumasi.
Families who suspect a child has been taken are generally advised to report to the nearest police station immediately and to alert the Ghana Immigration Service at border points.
