The Controller and Accountant-General’s Department (CAGD) has paid promotion-related salary adjustments and arrears to 56,003 teachers of the Ghana Education Service (GES), ahead of the October 16, deadline agreed with teacher unions.
The payments cover 49,725 teachers who received their money on October 15, alongside their October salaries, and 6,278 teachers who were paid in September.
However, 23,997 teachers are yet to receive their promotion-related payments, as 630 cases remain pending verification while the Ghana Education Service has not processed the records of another 23,367 teachers.
In a press release issued on Thursday, October 15, CAGD said it had completed payments for all teachers whose submitted records met the necessary payroll requirements.
The department said the payments covered salary adjustments and arrears dating back to January 1, 2026.
"The payments were completed ahead of the 16 October 2026 deadline agreed between Government representatives and teacher unions at a meeting held at the Ministry of Education on 2 October 2026," the statement said.
CAGD explained that the GES had processed and submitted supporting documents for 56,633 of the approximately 80,000 teachers reported to have been promoted.
Of that number, 56,003 teachers had their payments verified and processed, while 630 cases remained outstanding due to issues identified during the department’s verification process.
The department said it was awaiting the resolution of the outstanding issues by the GES before the affected teachers could be paid.
"The Department remains committed to processing outstanding eligible payments promptly once the necessary corrections are made or complete and accurate documents are received and verified," it added.
