Former Vice President and 2028 presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has called for increased support for artisans and businesses in the construction and building materials industry to unlock their job creation potential.
He said targeted interventions in training and certification, access to credit, solar power and taxation could help these businesses grow and create more employment opportunities.
Dr Bawumia made the call in a social media post on Friday, October 16, following a meeting with representatives of various trade and business associations to discuss challenges affecting their operations.
He said the discussions focused on the difficulties facing artisans, hairdressers, beauticians, tailors, dressmakers, barbers and businesses in the construction and building materials sector.
"Given the huge potential for job creation in these industries, it is important that we pay attention to supporting and growing them, especially in the areas of training and certification, the use of solar power, access to credit, and a simplified tax system," he stated.
The former Vice President said the meeting provided an opportunity to deliberate on issues affecting the respective businesses and consider areas where support could improve their operations.
He expressed appreciation to the representatives who attended the meeting and contributed to the discussions.
"My sincere thanks to all the representatives for making time to attend the meeting," he added.
