The aspiring Ashanti Regional Vice Chairman says his financial and logistical contributions to the party over the years give him confidence in winning the contest.
Former Asawasi NDC Communication Officer, Yakubu Tony Aidoo, has boldly declared that nobody has supported the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ashanti Region more than him, challenging his two contenders in the regional vice chairman race to account for their contributions to the party.
Speaking in an interview with the media on Thursday at the NDC Ashanti Regional Office, Aidoo said his commitment to the party had been demonstrated through years of financial and logistical assistance, particularly during election campaigns.
“I believe I will beat the two vice chairmen who are in the race. I will win. I have done so much for the party in the region,” he stated.
According to him, his contributions have been substantial enough to place him among the leading supporters of the NDC in the Ashanti Region.
“If we are to rank those who have supported the NDC in the region, I will place first or second. This is in terms of logistics and financial support,” he said.
Aidoo explained that his decision to contest the regional vice chairman position was driven by his desire to increase his support for the party and help strengthen its operations across the region.
Lists Contributions to the Party
To substantiate his claims, the aspiring regional vice chairman cited several interventions he said he had undertaken to support the NDC over the years.
He disclosed that he financed the tiling of the entire conference room at the party's Ashanti Regional Office and painted its former regional office.
He further claimed that he had provided logistical assistance to several constituency offices across the region's 47 constituencies.
Recounting his support during the tenure of former Regional Chairman Hon. Ohene Agyekum, Aidoo said he supplied 20 containers of second-hand motorbikes and bicycles to support party activities.
He also claimed to have donated vehicles to party officials at Drobonso and Akomadan to support the NDC's campaign during the 2008 general elections.
For the 2012 elections, he said he supported six constituencies, while in 2020, his assistance extended to 12 constituencies.
He added that during the 2024 general elections, he provided 31,000 snacks for the party's polling agents.
Aidoo maintained that these contributions reflected his dedication to the NDC and demonstrated his readiness to take on greater responsibilities within the party.
Let My Opponents Tell Delegates What They Have Done
Turning his attention to the two other candidates, Aidoo challenged them to present their records of service and explain what they had personally done to support the party's development in the Ashanti Region.
He insisted that delegates should consider the candidates' contributions and commitment rather than being swayed by campaign promises or financial inducements.
“I'm questioning the two vice chairmen contesting to tell me what they have done for the party. I'm telling them to step aside for me to come,” he declared.
He added that he was entering the race with fresh energy and a determination to make the NDC more vibrant and better organised.
The aspirant also disclosed that he had been given an assignment to fulfil if elected regional vice chairman, although he did not disclose the details.
