Youth advocate Kwame Junior Asiemoah, popularly known as JAK-UP, has proposed the establishment of a Youth Opportunity Centre in the Volta Region to improve young people’s access to jobs, scholarships and skills development opportunities.
The centre, according to the youth advocate, would provide a platform for young people to identify and access opportunities without relying on personal connections.
The proposal forms part of a six-pillar manifesto he unveiled in Ho as he officially declared his intention to contest for the position of Volta Regional Youth Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
“Today, before you get an NSS posting, it is about who you know. If you want a job opportunity, it’s about who you have contact with,” he said.
He explained that the proposed centre would identify available opportunities and make them accessible to young people across the region.
According to him, the initiative forms part of a broader plan to transform the NDC youth wing into an organisation that equips its members with the skills, resources and networks needed for personal and professional development.
He said the manifesto identifies gaps within the organisation and outlines measures to strengthen its structures, build the capacity of young people and expand economic opportunities in the region.
The aspirant also highlighted accountability as a key feature of his proposed leadership.
“It gives our members a clear basis for assessing our commitment against our performance,” he said.
JAK-UP has also proposed a Volta Youth Drive to promote tourism and create economic opportunities for young people.
He said the initiative would leverage the region’s reputation for cleanliness and its tourist attractions to encourage tourism development.
He added that further details of the initiatives outlined in his manifesto would be communicated in the coming days.
JAK-UP said his ultimate goal is to build an NDC youth wing in which every constituency matters, every member feels included and young people can see a meaningful future within the party.
