The Member of Parliament for Suame, John Darko, was granted enquiry bail on Tuesday after reporting to the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) in connection with an investigation into an alleged criminal conspiracy that has caused losses to SIC Savings and Loans Company Limited.
In a statement signed by the Head of EOCO's Corporate Affairs and Public Education Unit on behalf of the Executive Director on October 13, it said the losses are now estimated at about GH¢27 million.
That figure is a revision of an earlier estimate.
The MP had been invited to assist investigators with information relevant to the case. EOCO said he reported to its head office at exactly 12:00 noon and was "respectful, cooperative and fully responsive" throughout the process.
The Office said it granted him enquiry bail based on the circumstances of the case, the applicable law and his level of cooperation with investigators.
EOCO also disclosed that Amma Frimpomaa Dwumah, a former Managing Director of SIC Life Savings and Loans, had responded to an invitation from the Office and is cooperating with investigators.
According to EOCO, the investigation is "progressing steadily according to its case theory." It stressed that the probe remains active and that no conclusion has been reached about whether anyone connected to the matter is culpable.
