Ghanaian public advocate Hopeson Yaovi Adorye has secured a position on the Board of Directors of the World Taxpayers Association (WTA).
Mr Adorye was elected on Sunday, October 5, 2026, at the Association's conference in Kraków, Poland.
His election is expected to give him an opportunity to contribute to international discussions on taxpayer rights, responsible taxation, transparency and the management of public resources, while also bringing Ghanaian and broader African perspectives into those conversations.
Reacting to the development, Mr Adorye thanked the leadership and members of the WTA for the confidence placed in him.
“I am deeply honoured by this confidence and conscious of the responsibility that comes with it. Taxpayers are at the heart of every economy, and they deserve fairness, transparency, accountability and value for the taxes they pay. I look forward to working with colleagues from across the world to strengthen the voice of taxpayers and promote responsible fiscal governance,” he said.
Mr Adorye argued that taxation should be viewed beyond its role as a means of generating revenue for governments, describing it as an important part of the relationship between citizens and the state.
He said governments had a duty to ensure that taxes were collected fairly and that public funds were used efficiently to provide essential services, including infrastructure, healthcare, education and security.
He also said his new position would provide an avenue for African experiences and perspectives to feature more prominently in global conversations about taxation and public expenditure.
Mr Adorye is the Executive Director of Taxpayers League Ghana and has previously served as Global Board Chairman of the International Youth Network for UN Security Council Resolution 2250, an NGO associated with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).
In his new role, he is expected to focus on issues including fiscal accountability, taxpayer education, good governance and greater citizen participation in the management of public finances.
