SPIRO, an electric mobility company, has confirmed plans to enter the Ghanaian market as part of its expansion across Africa.

The company said the move follows its recent fundraising and accelerated growth on the continent, with plans to expand into 20 new markets by 2027.

SPIRO said its entry into Ghana will introduce an integrated electric mobility ecosystem comprising electric motorcycle assembly, battery-swapping infrastructure and after-sales services.

The company said the initiative is aimed at helping commercial riders and businesses reduce transport costs while contributing to the development of Ghana's electric mobility sector and green energy agenda.

SPIRO said its electric motorcycles can help riders save up to 40% on operating costs. It also projects that its wider ecosystem could support more than 200,000 direct and indirect jobs within three years across mobility, energy, logistics, maintenance and entrepreneurship.

Commenting on the planned entry into Ghana, SPIRO's Managing Director, Maxwell Dodd, said electric mobility could play a broader role in strengthening businesses and creating jobs.

“Electric mobility is not simply about transportation. It is about empowering people, strengthening businesses, creating jobs and building a more resilient economy. We believe Ghana has a unique opportunity to lead Africa’s next mobility revolution while delivering real value to riders, businesses and communities,” he said.

SPIRO's CEO of Mobility, Kaushik Burman, said Ghana was an important addition to the company's expansion plans.

“Ghana represents an important new market for SPIRO and another step in our ambition to build a truly pan-African electric mobility platform. As we continue to enter new markets and scale our infrastructure, our focus remains on making electric mobility more accessible, more affordable and more economically relevant for riders and businesses across the continent,” he said.

As part of its plans for Ghana, SPIRO said it will assemble motorcycles locally, deploy a network of energy hubs, train technicians, provide spare parts and establish dedicated customer service for riders and fleet operators.

The company said these measures are intended to support users and reduce downtime.

SPIRO said Ghana's growing interest in cleaner transport solutions and continued investment in energy infrastructure provide an opportunity for the development of electric mobility.

It added that the transition could help reduce reliance on fuel, lower transport costs and create economic opportunities across the mobility, green energy and technology sectors.

The company said it will continue engaging local stakeholders and investing in infrastructure, partnerships and services as it prepares to commence operations in Ghana.
