The National Homeownership Fund (NHF) is set to host a two-day National Conference on Housing Finance from October 7 to 8, 2026, at the Mövenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra.
The conference, being held under the theme “Adequate Housing for All: Innovative Financing for Ghana's Housing Future,” will bring together stakeholders from government, financial institutions, the private sector, development organisations, civil society, academia and local government.
The discussions will focus on practical and sustainable financing options that can improve access to affordable housing for Ghanaians.
President John Dramani Mahama is expected to serve as Guest of Honour and deliver the keynote address at the opening session on October 7.
The conference comes against the backdrop of persistent challenges in Ghana’s housing sector, including rising construction costs, limited availability of long-term financing, high mortgage rates and affordability constraints affecting many households.
Organisers said the two-day event will examine ways to mobilise and deploy capital more effectively to increase housing opportunities, particularly for low- and middle-income households, as Ghana commemorates World Habitat Day 2026.
The conference is being organised in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance; Ministry of Works, Housing and Water Resources; Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs; Bank of Ghana; and Shelter Afrique Development Bank.
Financial institutions, labour unions and private sector stakeholders are also expected to participate.
Participants will assess the current state of Ghana’s housing finance ecosystem and explore innovative approaches that could expand access to sustainable and affordable housing finance.
The conference is expected to conclude with a policy outcomes communiqué containing recommendations to guide future policy development, implementation and resource mobilisation within the housing sector.
Housing finance and World Habitat Day
World Habitat Day is observed annually to draw attention to the state of human settlements and highlight the importance of adequate housing as a component of inclusive and sustainable development.
The 2026 National Conference on Housing Finance is intended to translate that principle into practical action by examining ways to strengthen the institutions, systems and financing mechanisms required to expand access to adequate and affordable housing.
The organisers said the conference would provide stakeholders with an opportunity to move beyond discussions and identify actionable financing solutions, institutional reforms and partnerships capable of influencing the future of housing in Ghana.
