Former Bongo DCE declares intention to contest Upper East NDC Regional Secretary position

Former District Chief Executive (DCE) for the Bongo District, Alexis Adugdaa Ayamdor, has formally declared his intention to contest the position of Upper East Regional Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Mr Ayamdor made his declaration in a statement dated September 21, 2026, in which he said his decision followed careful reflection and extensive consultations.

He said he was offering himself to serve the NDC with what he described as more than 20 years of experience in governance, education, international development, project management, administration and community mobilisation.

According to his statement, his professional experience includes serving as District Chief Executive of Bongo District, Programme Management Specialist and Northern Sector Office Coordinator with USAID, Programme Officer with Catholic Relief Services, Programme Facilitator for the IBIS Public Participation in Local Governance project, Community Empowerment Programme Officer for TRAX-Ghana, and intern with the ECOWAS Parliament and Commission.

His professional profile at Bolgatanga Technical University also confirms his previous service as Bongo District Chief Executive, as well as his work with international development organisations and institutions. He currently serves as Assistant Industrial Liaison Officer and Sectional Head of the Job Placement Centre at the university.

On the political front, Mr Ayamdor said his grassroots experience includes service as a Unit Committee Member, elected Assembly Member, Presiding Member, Branch Secretary, Constituency Campaign Team Member, member of the Bongo Constituency Fundraising Committee for the 2024 elections, Regional Team-Lead of the Former MMDCEs Forum and current Secretary of the Constituency Council of Elders in Bongo.

If elected Regional Secretary, he said his focus would be on strengthening party structures, improving communication and coordination, deepening grassroots mobilisation, promoting unity and discipline, increasing the participation of women and young people, enhancing election preparedness and promoting accountability and effective administration.

“I present myself as a team player, listener, organiser and servant-leader,” Mr Ayamdor stated, pledging to work with regional and constituency executives, branch executives, elected representatives, former leaders, cadres, women, youth and the wider membership of the party.

He further called for a more united, organised, disciplined, accountable, innovative, responsive and grassroots-driven NDC in the Upper East Region.

Mr Ayamdor's declaration adds to an emerging contest for the NDC Upper East Regional Secretary position. On September 15, 2026, the party's Upper East Regional Communication Officer, Jonathan Abdallah Salifu, also announced his intention to contest the position, citing more than two decades of involvement in the party's structures.

The NDC's 2026 internal elections roadmap indicates that regional elections are scheduled for November 14–15, 2026, while the party has said the reorganisation exercise is intended to strengthen its structures and deepen internal democracy.
