The Adenta Circuit Court 1 has remanded Senior Nursing Officer Salomey Awity Baffoe for two weeks following allegations that she operates the “Ghana Jollof” TikTok account, which has been critical of government officials.
Her remand forms part of investigations into persons suspected of being connected to the social media account.
Following the court proceedings, her lawyer and Manhyia South Member of Parliament, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, challenged the justification for keeping his client in custody.
He argued that the authorities had informed the court that the individual behind the “Ghana Jollof” account was believed to be in the United Kingdom, questioning why the nurse had consequently been remanded.
“Because you want to arrest Ghana Jollof, you have remanded her for two weeks. Meanwhile, you told the court that Ghana Jollof is in the UK,” he said.
The case follows reports surrounding the arrest and midnight detention of Ms Baffoe, a 40-year-old mother of three from Hansua in the Techiman Municipality.
Reports indicate that three individuals who identified themselves as National Security operatives arrived at her residence at about 11:30 p.m. on September 13 and allegedly took her away.
Her family subsequently faced difficulties determining her whereabouts. At the time, the Bono East Regional Police Command and Regional National Security officials were reportedly unable to confirm knowledge of the operation.
Ms Baffoe is now being investigated over an alleged connection to the “Ghana Jollof” account, although the circumstances surrounding the alleged link remain the subject of the ongoing case.
