Ghana Jollof probe: “She is safe, unharmed” — Police assure GRNMA over detained nurse

The Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) has stepped in to support nurse Salomey Baffoe following her arrest in Techiman, with the Police Criminal Investigation Department (CID) confirming that she remains in custody and is expected to return to court on Thursday, September 17, 2026.

The association dispatched a high-powered delegation to the CID Headquarters in Accra on Wednesday, September 16, to seek information on the circumstances surrounding the nurse’s arrest.

The delegation was led by the GRNMA’s Assistant National Public Relations Officer, Philimon Gyapong.

The association said it was informed that the arrest was connected to the ongoing “Ghana Jollof” investigation.

Police confirmed to the GRNMA that Nurse Salomey had been arrested in Techiman but declined to disclose further details, citing the sensitive and ongoing nature of the case.

The Assistant Commissioner of Police handling the matter subsequently directed the GRNMA delegation to liaise with the nurse’s legal representatives, who appeared with her during Wednesday’s court proceedings.

Questions were also raised over the exact location where Nurse Salomey was being held. The Police, however, assured the association that she was safe, had not been harmed and was being treated in line with professional policing standards.

The GRNMA was further informed that the nurse was scheduled to appear before the Adenta Circuit Court on Thursday, September 17.

Following the engagement with the Police, the association’s National Council, acting on the instructions of its President, Mrs Perpetual Ofori-Ampofo, mobilised representatives to be present at the court.

The GRNMA said its participation was aimed at gaining a clearer understanding of the legal proceedings and working with Nurse Salomey’s defence team to help bring the matter to a swift resolution.

The association has also contacted Nurse Salomey’s family and assured them of continued legal, emotional and institutional assistance throughout the case.

“We urge all members to remain calm but vigilant as we navigate this matter,” Mr Gyapong said in an update issued on behalf of the association.

The GRNMA said it would continue to follow developments surrounding the case and provide support to Nurse Salomey and her family as the legal process progresses.
