NPP youth wing needs revitalisation, experienced leadership

New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Youth Organiser hopeful, Michael Osei Boateng, has called for experienced and competent leadership to revitalise the party’s youth wing and strengthen its mobilisation ahead of the 2028 general elections.

He believes the youth remain central to the growth and sustainability of the NPP and must therefore be given effective leadership capable of connecting with their concerns and aspirations.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, Mr Osei Boateng said his extensive involvement in the party and previous experience as a regional organiser had equipped him with the skills needed to lead the youth wing.

He noted that his decision to contest the National Youth Organiser position for a second time had further strengthened his understanding of the responsibilities and challenges associated with the role.

“If the youth wing isn’t vibrant, the party can’t stand strong. The youth wing is the engine of the party and we need a competent hand to handle it,” he said.

Calls for TESCON revival

Mr Osei Boateng also raised concerns about the current state of the Tertiary Students Confederacy Network (TESCON), stressing the need for a comprehensive effort to restore its effectiveness.

He proposed a rebranding and revitalisation of the organisation, arguing that the party needed leadership that could effectively communicate with tertiary students and understand their unique challenges.

“TESCON is at the brink of collapsing. We have to rebrand it and revitalise it. You need someone who understands them, who they understand and who speaks their language,” he stated.

According to him, his background in student politics gives him an added understanding of the issues affecting young people and the expectations they have of the party.

Youth development key to NPP’s future

The National Youth Organiser hopeful said the NPP must place greater emphasis on identifying, nurturing and protecting young members if it wants to secure the party’s future.

“The youth are our future. We have to groom them and protect them,” he said.

Mr Osei Boateng maintained that the NPP continues to have the potential to attract young people, but argued that effective organisation, motivation and opportunities for meaningful participation were necessary to sustain their involvement.

He said the National Youth Organiser must be capable of inspiring young members while creating avenues for them to contribute to the party at both grassroots and national levels.

“I believe I am very resourceful. I have done it before as a regional organiser, and experience counts,” he said.

Mr Osei Boateng further pointed to his previous responsibility for organising and coordinating activities across 29 constituencies as evidence of his organisational experience.

He expressed confidence that the experience would help him strengthen the party’s youth mobilisation structures if elected to lead the youth wing.

“Aside from passion, I have the experience,” he added.
