Agbogbloshie: Police kill suspected robber, recover AK-47, 186 rounds of ammunition at Galoway

The Accra Regional Police Command has shot and killed a suspected armed robber during a gunfight at Galoway near Agbogbloishe and recovered an AK-47 rifle with 186 rounds of ammunition.

The incident occurred on Thursday, September 10, 2026, after police received intelligence that four armed men riding two motorbikes were heading towards a Shell Filling Station near Agbogbloishe for a planned robbery operation.

According to the police, a team from the Accra Regional Police Intelligence and Professional Standards Directorate, supported by the Operational Unit, moved to the area and encountered the suspects at the Galoway Police Barrier.

An exchange of gunfire followed, during which one of the suspects was shot. The other three suspects abandoned their motorbikes and fled into the area, police said.

The injured suspect was found with an AK-47 assault rifle, serial number 79-HF-3014, fitted with a double magazine containing 136 rounds of AK-47 ammunition.

Police also recovered 50 rounds of 9mm ammunition from the suspect.

He was rushed to the Police Hospital for medical attention but was pronounced dead on arrival. His body has been deposited at the Police Hospital Mortuary for identification and autopsy.

The police also retrieved two unregistered motorbikes, identified as a Royal and an Apsonic, which have been retained alongside the firearm and ammunition as exhibits.

“Efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the remaining suspects and establish the full circumstances of the planned robbery operation,” the Accra Regional Police Command said.

The command said it would continue intelligence-led operations to combat armed robbery and other violent crimes and protect lives and property.
