Nine journalists in the Bono Region are set to receive recognition for outstanding contributions to journalism at the fourth Bono Regional Awards of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA).

The awards ceremony, scheduled for Saturday, September 19, 2026, at the Sweet Touch Hotel on the Abesim Road in Sunyani, will recognise the journalists in 14 categories for excellence in reporting and their contribution to public interest and societal development.

The ceremony, which begins at 6:00 p.m., will be held under the theme: “Ethics, Integrity and Impactful Journalism – Essential Ingredients for Societal Transformation.”

The GJA Bono Regional branch said the theme was chosen to underscore the importance of ethical and responsible journalism at a time when the media landscape is increasingly challenged by misinformation, disinformation and other ethical concerns.

According to the Association, the awardees emerged from a rigorous vetting process conducted by an independent Awards Committee.

Award categories
It said entries were assessed based on originality, adherence to ethical standards, public interest and societal impact, with journalists competing in a range of specialised reporting categories.

The categories include Socio-Culture, Tourism (Print and Electronic), Developmental Reporting, Radio Documentary, Agriculture and Agribusiness, Energy and Green Transition, Mining, Business and Finance, Children's Advocacy, Education, Health and Medical Care, and Best Morning Show Host.

The awards will also include special recognition for female participation in journalism.

Posthumous award
A major highlight of the ceremony will be a posthumous honour for the late Francis Owusu Ansah, a dedicated member of the Association, in recognition of his contribution to journalism.

The event will further feature a Special Award for Courage and Female Participation, aimed at acknowledging exceptional commitment and bravery in the practice of journalism.

Appreciation
The GJA Bono Region expressed appreciation to sponsors and supporting partners for their continued contribution towards media development in the region.

The Association has consequently invited media practitioners, stakeholders and members of the public to the ceremony to celebrate journalistic excellence and renew their commitment to journalism that promotes accountability, development and societal transformation.

The awards have become a flagship annual event for the GJA in the Bono Region, providing a platform to celebrate journalists whose work informs the public, highlights development challenges and contributes to positive change in society.
