Rally firmly behind Bawumia for 2028 victory – Afenyo-Markin charges NPP communicators

Minority Leader and Member of Parliament for Effutu, Osahen Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has urged communicators of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to rally behind former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia ahead of the 2028 general elections.

He said the party’s return to power will require unity, disciplined communication and sustained engagement with supporters at the grassroots.

Osahen Afenyo-Markin made the call while addressing participants at the 2026 Communication Officers’ Boot Camp organised by Leadership House in partnership with the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung and the Patriotic Institute.

The programme was held at the Anagkazo Campus in Mampong, where participants were taken through the history of the NPP and key principles required to secure electoral victory.

In a social media post on Friday, September 4, the Minority Leader said political success goes beyond activities undertaken on election day and depends heavily on the relationships built with voters at the grassroots.

“I took participants through the rich history of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and emphasised the fundamentals of electoral victory: true success is forged not just at the polling station, but through the deep relationships we build and sustain at the grassroots, backed by disciplined public engagement, unity, collective spirit, and continuous hard work,” he said.

The Minority Leader also cautioned the party’s communication officers against spreading fake news and urged them to prioritise accuracy and responsibility in their public engagements.

He said disciplined communication would be critical to rebuilding public trust and strengthening the party’s engagement with voters ahead of the 2028 elections.

Osahen Afenyo-Markin further called on the communicators to put aside divisions and work collectively towards the party’s electoral objective.

“My charge to every Communication Officer present was clear and resolute: rally firmly behind Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as we strengthen our grassroots engagement and work together towards victory in 2028,” he said.

The former Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, was elected as the NPP’s presidential candidate for the 2024 general elections but lost to National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate John Dramani Mahama.

The NPP, as part of plans to return to power in the next elections, re-elected Dr. Bawumia to lead the party again in a presidential primary held on January 31, 2026.
