'You have one week to shut down new Winneba Police Station or face our wrath' — Gomoa Ajumako Chiefs tells IGP after deadly clash

Following the deadly land dispute clashes between the Gomoa and Effutu people which claimed three lives and left more than 19 others in critical condition, the Gomoa Ajumako Traditional Council has given the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) and the National Security Secretariat one week to shut down the New Winneba Police Station or face the wrath of the people.

Speaking to journalists at Gomoa Ekroful on Wednesday, the spokesperson for the Gomoa Ajumako Traditional Council, Nana Kojo Idan Opirim IX, who also serves as the Apasamekahen (PRO), said he was speaking on behalf of Obrempong Nyanful Krampah XI and the Council of Chiefs.

He explained that although the Gomoa and Effutu people have lived together peacefully for decades, the Gomoa people will not allow their lands to be taken illegally.

“We have been advised to remain calm and allow the law to take its course as quickly as possible. We do not intend to create any confusion with our Effutu brothers. Gomoa is a place where we welcome everyone with love, but we are only protecting our inheritance. We will not allow intimidation or land‑guard activities in our area. The Police must do the right thing, or we will be forced to protect ourselves. Ghana needs peace to develop, and so does Gomoa,” Nana Kojo Idan Opirim IX cautioned.

He further stated that there is no town or village within any of the three Gomoa District Assemblies known as New Winneba.

“There is nothing called New Winneba on Gomoa land. Their violent actions and activities are a threat to the lives of Gomoa people, and we will not entertain illegal land sales or any other unlawful activities,” he stated.

He added that the Traditional Council fully supports the Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, Hon. Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A‑Plus, who has warned that if authorities fail to act, the people of Gomoa may be compelled to declare Gomoa an enemy of the Government of Ghana.
