Julius Debrah challenges Greenhouse Group to turn Ghana investment into jobs, skills

Chief of Staff Dr. Julius Debrah has urged the Greenhouse Group to ensure that its large-scale investment in modern forestry, livestock and agriculture delivers broad-based benefits to Ghanaians.

Dr. Debrah made the call during a ceremony marking the Greenhouse Large-Scale Modern Forestry and Livestock Development Project, where he joined the leadership of the Greenhouse Group, led by Chairman Zheng Xiangming, and other stakeholders.

He described the project as a major investment with the potential to transform Ghana’s agricultural landscape by increasing food production, creating employment and promoting value addition.

The Chief of Staff said the scale and technological orientation of the project could provide significant opportunities for Ghanaian youth, farmers, local enterprises and communities in areas where the project operates.

He, however, cautioned that the true measure of the investment should extend beyond the volume of agricultural and livestock production.

Dr. Debrah called for responsible land management, environmental protection, technology transfer and skills development, stressing that Ghanaians must have meaningful opportunities to participate across the project's value chain.

He said such an approach would ensure that the investment contributes not only to agricultural output but also to the development of local expertise and businesses.

Linking investment to the 24-Hour Economy
Dr. Debrah also situated the project within President John Dramani Mahama’s 24-Hour Economy vision and the government’s Reset Agenda.

He explained that Ghana must increasingly move away from an economy that focuses primarily on the production of raw materials and instead build systems that generate value through processing, logistics, distribution and access to markets.

According to him, large-scale investments must therefore be structured to create opportunities throughout the economic chain.

“Ghana is open for investment that creates decent jobs, builds local capacity and leaves a lasting impact,” he stressed.

The Chief of Staff further congratulated Chairman Zheng Xiangming on his enstoolment and commended the Greenhouse Group for choosing Ghana as a destination for the significant investment.

He expressed hope that the partnership would develop into a lasting collaboration in which the success of the Greenhouse Group would translate into tangible benefits for Ghana and its people.

Dr. Debrah's remarks underscore the government's commitment to attracting investments that combine economic growth with job creation, skills development, environmental responsibility and local participation as Ghana pursues a reset of its economy.
