'Homeless' Barosky ready to return home after Ghana's High Commissioner to UK visit

Veteran Highlife musician Barosky has expressed his willingness to return to Ghana following a visit by Ghana’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Mrs Sabah Zita Benson, who travelled to Manchester to check on his welfare.

The visit followed the circulation of distressing footage of the musician on social media, which triggered widespread concern among Ghanaians both in Ghana and abroad, with many expressing sympathy for the veteran musician.

Mrs Benson said the Ghana High Commission in the UK moved swiftly after being alerted to Barosky’s situation.

“When the video came out, a lot of people forwarded it to us. So immediately, I instructed our consular office to reach out and see how we can resolve it,” she said during the visit.

The High Commissioner explained that she travelled to Manchester to meet Barosky and engage members of the local Ghanaian community on possible ways of supporting him.

She described Barosky as a respected figure who had made significant contributions to Ghanaian music and deserved the collective support of Ghanaians.

“Barosky has contributed immensely to Ghanaian music, and we all need to come together as a community to help him get back on his feet,” she said.

Mrs Benson said the High Commission was prepared to assist the musician if he decided to return to Ghana.

“So, I decided to take this move to hear from him and see how to help him settle and, if he is willing to go home, we will assist him to do that,” she said.

“Getting him back on his feet again means we must come together as a community and help him.”

Addressing Barosky directly, Mrs Benson praised his musical talent and called for collective efforts to support him.

“Your talent was what shocked people. You are such a great talent and how are we allowing it to go to waste?” she asked.

She said the Ghana High Commission continued to promote the country through its arts and cultural heritage, including music, food and other creative expressions.

“We at the High Commission are promoting Ghana through arts, culture, music and food,” she added.

Barosky expressed appreciation to Mrs Benson and members of the Ghanaian community for visiting him and showing concern about his welfare.

He also indicated that he was willing to return to Ghana if the necessary arrangements could be made.
