The first batch of 10,000 successful applicants recruited into Ghana’s security services has commenced training, the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has disclosed.

He said another 10,000 successful applicants would be selected from the current pool and undergo training next year to further strengthen the Police, Ghana National Fire Service, Ghana Prisons Service and Ghana Immigration Service (GIS).

Speaking at the Government Accountability Series in Accra on Monday, Mr Muntaka said the recruitment and training formed part of efforts to strengthen the country’s security services.

The Minister also explained that applicants who were disqualified during the medical screening were given contact details to enable them to seek clarification on the reasons for their disqualification.

He said the process was intended to ensure transparency and provide applicants with the opportunity to understand the outcome of their medical assessment.

Mr Muntaka noted that some of the medical conditions identified during the screening were treatable, making appropriate counselling and medical care important for affected applicants.

He said applicants who required further clarification could contact the designated channels to obtain information on their medical assessment and the reasons for their disqualification.
