“This Support Is Not For Indomie Or Don Simon” — Alamzy Urges Students To Invest GH¢1,000 Educational Support Wisely

CHIANA-PAGA, UPPER EAST REGION: The Member of Parliament for the Chiana-Paga Constituency, Hon. Alamzy Nikyema Billa, has cautioned tertiary students who benefited from his educational support programme through the MP’s Common Fund to use the money strictly for their academic needs and not on unnecessary consumption and entertainment.

Speaking during the disbursement of financial support to tertiary students in the Kasena Nankana West District of the Upper East Region, Hon. Alamzy stressed that the intervention was intended to ease the financial burden on students and help them successfully pursue their education.

The MP supported 350 tertiary students, with each beneficiary receiving GH¢1,000 to assist with academic-related expenses.

In a light-hearted but serious warning, Hon. Alamzy said: “This support is not for Indomie or Don Simon.” He urged students to resist the temptation to spend the money on malt drinks, snacks and other items that do not contribute to their education.

According to him, the financial assistance comes from his Common Fund and is therefore a public resource intended to make a meaningful difference in the lives of constituents, particularly young people pursuing higher education.

“This money is to support your education. It is not for Indomie, Don Simon, malt and other things that will not advance your academic progress. Please use it wisely,” he admonished.

Beneficiaries To Increase to 500

Demonstrating his commitment to supporting tertiary education in the constituency, Hon. Alamzy Nikyema Billa pledged to increase the number of beneficiaries from 350 to 500 in the next academic year.

He explained that the expansion aims to reach more students who face financial difficulties in meeting the cost of tertiary education.

The initiative is expected to provide relief to students and their families, especially at a time when expenses related to tuition, accommodation, transportation, learning materials and other academic requirements continue to place pressure on households.

Hon. Alamzy said supporting young people through education remains one of the most effective ways of building the human capital needed to transform the constituency.

MP Warns Students Against Drug Abuse

Beyond financial support, the MP urged beneficiaries to take their studies seriously and remain focused on their academic and personal development.

He cautioned them against the use of drugs and other harmful substances, stressing that substance abuse could destroy the future of young people and undermine the purpose of the educational support.

He encouraged students to see themselves as future leaders and professionals whose knowledge and skills will be needed to contribute to the development of their communities.

“Take your studies seriously. Avoid drugs and other harmful substances because your future depends largely on the choices you make today,” he told them.

Education Key to Community Development

Hon. Alamzy reiterated his conviction that education remains a critical pathway to sustainable development, particularly in communities where young people constitute a significant portion of the population.

He noted that when young people are given access to quality education and the necessary support to complete their studies, they become better positioned to contribute meaningfully to economic and social development.

“Education is the only way we can develop our communities. When we educate our young people, we are investing in the future of Chiana-Paga,” he emphasized.
