A 27-year-old self-styled spiritualist has been arrested at Atiaa near Lamptey Mills in Kasoa, in the Ga South Municipality, for allegedly attempting to abduct an 11-year-old girl for ritual purposes.
The suspect, identified only as “C Prof”, was reportedly caught dragging the girl into an uncompleted building believed to be used as his shrine.
Residents said the girl’s cries coming from inside the building alerted them to the incident, prompting several people to rush to the location.
The residents reportedly forced their way into the building, rescued the girl and apprehended the suspect before handing him over to the police.
A search of the suspect’s belongings allegedly uncovered a bag containing items believed to be human skeletal remains.
Residents further claimed that the suspect had been staying in the uncompleted building, where he allegedly conducted spiritual activities.
The suspect, who was reportedly assaulted by some residents before the arrival of the police, is currently in police custody as investigations continue.
The rescued girl is said to be safe and has since been reunited with her family.
Police investigations are expected to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged attempted abduction and determine the nature and origin of the items reportedly found in the suspect’s possession.
Residents who spoke about the incident have called on the authorities to ensure that the suspect is dealt with in accordance with the law if found culpable.
