A police officer has raised serious allegations of misconduct within the Ghana Police Service, claiming that ammunition is being sold to armed robbers who allegedly use the weapons to attack civilians and police officers in the Ablekuma Central and Ablekuma North areas.

General Lance Corporal Nicholas Ohene Ampong Kissi made the allegations in videos shared on social media by Crime Check TV, calling on the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, to investigate the claims.

According to the officer, hardened criminals have allegedly taken over parts of the Mataheko and Odorkor Police Barracks.

“At Mataheko Police Barracks and Odorkor Police Barracks, the current station officer is selling ammunition to armed robbers to go and kill their own police officers and attack civilians. At Odorkor Police Barracks, hardened criminals have taken over the place and two of them came and assaulted me. One slapped me twice.
“I had intelligence that they were operating around the area and as a result, I was attacked. So, if the IGP gets this video, investigate this matter,” he said.

The officer further alleged that he had been assaulted after attempting to bring the matter to the attention of senior officials within the Police Service.

He said the alleged attack followed information he had gathered about the activities of suspected criminals operating in the area.

General Lance Corporal Ampong Kissi subsequently appeared at a police hospital, where he was seen displaying a medical report bearing the Ghana Police Service logo, apparently as evidence of the alleged assault.

The allegations have not been independently verified, and it remains unclear whether any disciplinary or criminal investigations have been initiated into the claims.

The officer has, however, urged the IGP to investigate the allegations and establish the facts surrounding the alleged sale of ammunition, activities at the two police barracks and the reported assault.
