Hundreds of residents from Dome-Kwabenya, Comet, Berekuso, Agyementi and Kitase have taken to the streets to demand the rehabilitation and completion of the Dome-Kwabenya–Berekuso–Kitase Road.

The protest, held on Monday morning, was organised by the Dome-Kwabenya–Kitase Road Stakeholders Committee to draw attention to the deteriorating state of the major road and the hardships it continues to impose on residents, commuters, transport operators and businesses.

The demonstrators said years of engagements with the relevant authorities had yielded little progress, leaving them with no option but to organise the peaceful protest to demand urgent action.

“This road is a huge problem for us. It makes our movement very difficult and disruptive. We are pleading with the government to work on our roads for us,” one of the protesters said.

Another demonstrator described the action as a peaceful call for the authorities to address the situation, noting that the road had remained in poor condition for about two decades.

“This is a peaceful demonstration for our roads to be fixed. The road has not been fixed in 20 years. We need our roads to be fixed,” the protester said.

Residents also expressed concern about the health effects of the poor road conditions, particularly the large amounts of dust generated by vehicles using the stretch.

They appealed to the government and relevant authorities to prioritise the rehabilitation and completion of the road, saying a properly constructed road would ease transportation difficulties and improve living and business conditions in the affected communities.
