Suspected narcotics concealed in sacks
A statement issued by the Public Affairs Unit of the Upper East Regional Police Command and signed by Chief Inspector Abdul-Raman Sumaila said the operation led to the discovery of a large quantity of suspected narcotic substances concealed in sacks.
Preliminary investigations, according to the police, indicated that the suspected Indian hemp, commonly known as ‘wee’, was being cultivated alongside millet and maize to conceal the farms and avoid detection.
The police further alleged that the suspects were major suppliers of narcotic drugs to several drug dealers operating across the Upper East Region.
The arrests form part of ongoing efforts by the Police Command to disrupt the cultivation, distribution and supply networks responsible for the circulation of narcotic drugs in the region.
Suspects to face court
The police said all 14 suspects remain in custody and will be put before the court to face the full rigours of the law.
