Obuasi East Assembly procures two 200KVA/33KVA transformers to restore power to Kwabenakwa and Asonkore

The Obuasi East Municipal Assembly has handed over two 200KVA/33KVA transformers valued at GH¢250,000 to the Kwabenakwa and Asonkore communities in a bid to restore stable electricity supply after months of persistent power outages.

The transformers were officially presented by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), William Kofi Adzowu, as part of the Assembly's efforts to improve electricity infrastructure and support economic activities in the affected communities.

The intervention follows more than six months of unstable power supply that disrupted businesses, education and daily life in the two communities. According to the Assembly, the decision to procure the transformers was taken after the required equipment was found to be temporarily unavailable at the Ministry of Energy.

Addressing residents during the handing-over ceremony, Mr Adzowu apologised for the prolonged inconvenience caused by the outages and assured them of the Assembly's commitment to addressing the challenges confronting the municipality.

"I am here to serve the good people of Obuasi East, and it is my primary responsibility to ensure that our citizens receive the reliable services they deserve," he said.

He urged residents to protect the newly installed transformers by avoiding illegal electricity connections and promptly reporting faults to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to ensure the equipment remains in good condition.

Community leaders welcomed the intervention, describing it as a major boost to economic recovery.

The Abusuapanyin of Kwabenakwa Subinso, Nana Akwasi Addo, expressed appreciation to the MCE and the Assembly, noting that the prolonged power interruptions had negatively affected small businesses, with many traders suffering significant financial losses.

The Assembly Member for the Kwabenakwa Electoral Area, Charles Abu, also commended the MCE for what he described as his swift response and proactive leadership, saying the provision of the transformers would help revive economic activities in the area.

Technical teams from the Electricity Company of Ghana are currently completing the installation of the transformers, with stable and uninterrupted power supply expected to be restored to both Kwabenakwa and Asonkore in the coming days.
