Birimso bridge crash causes major traffic disruption on Accra-Kumasi highway

Motorists travelling on the N6 Accra-Kumasi Highway have been advised to expect significant delays following a multi-vehicle collision at the Birimso Bridge that has completely blocked traffic in both directions.

The accident, which occurred on Sunday, August 3, involved a high-occupancy passenger bus, a loaded articulated truck and a saloon car, leaving the busy highway impassable for both Accra-bound and Kumasi-bound vehicles.

Personnel from the Eastern South Regional Police Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) in Kibi have been deployed to the scene to manage traffic and coordinate efforts to clear the wreckage.

To ease congestion, the Police have introduced temporary diversions. Vehicles travelling towards Accra are being rerouted through Kibi at Nsutam, while motorists heading to Kumasi are being directed through Apedwa.

The Police have appealed to motorists and other road users to cooperate with officers on duty and adhere to the diversion routes as recovery operations continue.

Drivers have also been urged to remain patient, exercise caution and follow all traffic directions until normal movement is restored on the highway.
