'We have not lost GH¢200 million to Dominic Bonsu Ventures'

The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has dismissed as false claims circulating on social media that Dominic Bonsu Ventures absconded with GH¢200 million belonging to the state agency.

The Board said the widely circulated social media news card, which also claimed the proprietor of the company was a former bodyguard to GoldBod Chief Executive Officer Sammy Gyamfi, was fabricated and intended to mislead the public.

According to GoldBod, the publication seeks to distort ongoing enforcement action against the company and undermine public confidence in the institution's operations.

"The GoldBod wishes to state, unequivocally, that the publication is entirely false, malicious and deliberately intended to mislead the public," the Board said in a statement issued on Monday, August 3.

It stressed that Mr. Dominic Bonsu had never served as a bodyguard or personal security officer to Sammy Gyamfi and rejected suggestions of any financial dealings between the agency and Dominic Bonsu Ventures involving GH¢200 million.

GoldBod explained that the company's licence was suspended over suspected breaches of the terms and conditions of its licence and the GoldBod Trading Directives under the Ghana Gold Board Act, 2025 (Act 1140).

It added that following investigations and enforcement action, Mr. Bonsu was arrested and remanded into lawful custody by the High Court in Accra, where legal proceedings are ongoing.

"The GoldBod has not lost and/or advanced GH¢200 million, or any amount of money, to Mr. Dominic Bonsu or Dominic Bonsu Ventures," the statement emphasised.

The Board urged the public to disregard the claims and rely only on information published through its official communication channels.

It also called on media organisations, bloggers and social media users to verify information before publication and uphold responsible journalism.
