Bank of Ghana warns public against 20 unlicensed digital loan apps

The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has cautioned the public against using 20 digital loan applications operating without the required licence or authorisation.

The Central Bank said the entities continue to provide digital loans to Ghanaians in breach of the Directive for Digital Credit Service Providers in Ghana issued in September 2025 and other applicable laws.

The affected loan apps include Adamfo Loan, Agyapacredit, Amanfi Loan, Arco Cash, Aya Lend, Bucks Now, CediGo, CGrab, DumboCash, FCash, Gh Loans, Gh Loans Pro, Hasty Credit, Newgry Money Tree, Omanpesa, PoPoCedi, Ready Money, Sika Tap, Sikapa Loan and Zigwe Loan.

"The Bank wishes to inform the public that the following mobile loan applications are operating without the requisite licence or authorisation from the Bank of Ghana," the Central Bank said in a notice issued on Monday, August 3.

According to the BoG, the operations of the unlicensed lenders violate key regulatory requirements and expose users to risks relating to privacy and consumer protection.

"The Bank reiterates that the operations of these entities constitute significant violations of customer data privacy, consumer protection, and established regulatory standards," the notice stated.

The Bank said it would continue to work with relevant state institutions to identify, investigate and take enforcement action against unlicensed digital credit providers to protect consumers and preserve the integrity and stability of Ghana's financial sector.

It further advised the public not to engage with unlicensed loan providers and cautioned banks, Specialised Deposit-Taking Institutions (SDIs) and Payment Service Providers (PSPs) against facilitating or processing transactions on their behalf.
