'Coding, AI and TVET coming to basic schools under revised curriculum' — Education Minister

The Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has announced that Ghana’s basic education curriculum is set to undergo a major revision to incorporate emerging technologies and technical skills.

The revised curriculum, which covers learners from kindergarten to junior high school, is expected to be formally presented to the Ministry of Education on Wednesday, July 22.

According to the Minister, the proposed curriculum will subsequently be submitted to President John Dramani Mahama, Cabinet and Parliament for consideration.

The Education Minister said the review is aimed at preparing young learners for a technology-driven future through the integration of science, engineering, technology and mathematics.

Speaking during the Government Accountability Series on Monday, July 20, the Tamale South MP said the National Curriculum Review Agency (NACA) was tasked to undertake the review of the curriculum.

“One of the most significant decisions we took as government was to revise our education curriculum, and the agency responsible is NACA, the National Curriculum Review Agency," he said.

The Minister explained that the revised curriculum will introduce new areas of learning, including coding, electronics, artificial intelligence and technical and vocational education and training (TVET) at the basic education level.

“We have promised to introduce coding, electronics, artificial intelligence, and TVET into the basic education curriculum," he noted.
