The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has announced that it will continue its demolition exercise at the Asafo Interchange and surrounding enclave on Friday, July 17, as part of efforts to restore order and reclaim public spaces.
The exercise will affect persons occupying spaces beneath the Asafo Interchange, behind COCOBOD and within the Takoradi Flour Mill enclave.
The announcement follows a recent enforcement exercise during which officers of the KMA, City Guards and security personnel were reportedly attacked while carrying out their duties.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, July 14, the Assembly stressed that "this exercise forms part of the Assembly's ongoing efforts to restore order, improve public safety, and reclaim public spaces from unauthorized occupation and criminal elements."
The Assembly directed all persons who have erected temporary or unauthorised structures in the affected areas to vacate the premises on or before Friday, July 17.
It also cautioned individuals using the area as a base for prostitution, the sale of hard drugs or other criminal activities to leave immediately.
KMA further instructed anyone claiming lawful authority to occupy the area to submit the relevant documents to its Works Department by the close of work on Tuesday, July 14, for verification.
It said any structure without valid authorisation by Wednesday, July 15, would be considered illegal and demolished during the exercise.
It urged all affected persons to comply with the directive to avoid forceful eviction, adding that no compensation would be paid for structures or items removed during the demolition exercise.
