Mr Yaw Dabie Appiah Mensah, a member of the Bono Regional Council of Elders of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has asked for urgent intervention from the national executives to address emerging internal strife and bickering in the Sunyani East constituency.
He said it was rather unfortunate and disappointing that delegates in Sunyani East could not participate in the ongoing NPP internal elections in the constituency due to a court injunction placed on the elections.
The Sunyani High Court Two injuncted constituency executive elections in Sunyani East, denying the delegates the opportunity to vote to elect new executives for the constituency.
The order of the court followed a suit filed by Mr Maxwell Mahama and Mr Prince Baidoo Worae, aspirants who filed their nominations to contest the elections.
They were among the five aspirants who were disqualified by the Sunyani East Constituency Vetting Committee for various offences that allegedly breached the NPP's Constitution.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) Mr Mensah, also a former organiser of the NPP in the then Brong-Ahafo Region said the NPP had gone far, saying that it was highly disappointing that party could not address concerns that emanated from its vetting.
He said for the NPP to remain formidable for the Election 2028, the leadership of the party ought to ensure fairness and protect the integrity of the constituency elections.
“It is the NPP that suffers if we allow unnecessary things and trivialities to cause divisions”, he stated.
Mr Mensah called on the former Vice President Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP's Election 2028 flagbearer to personally intervene and address emerging concerns and some internal wrangling in the party.
