The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced an expedited process to replace Ghanaian passports that were lost or damaged during the recent floods across parts of the country.
The decision follows widespread destruction caused by heavy rains earlier this week, which left several homes and properties submerged.
In a statement issued on Thursday, July 3, the Ministry expressed solidarity with victims and said it was moving to ease the burden on affected citizens.
"The Ministry is aware of the catastrophic consequences including loss of lives and destruction of properties. We extend our sincere and deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of the deceased," the statement said.
The Ministry noted that many Ghanaians may have either lost or damaged their passports as a result of the flooding and assured that steps had been taken to replace them swiftly.
It said affected persons should contact a dedicated hotline between Friday, July 3 and Friday, July 17, and provide personal details such as name, date of birth, gender and phone number for verification and processing.
"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has decided to implement an expedited replacement of lost and damaged Ghanaian passports as a result of the floods," the statement added.
