Central University has suspended all outstanding activities planned for this year's Students’ Representative Council (SRC) Week following reports that five individuals are currently in the custody of the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC).
In a statement issued by the university, management acknowledged media reports linking the arrests to an incident that allegedly occurred during an event associated with the SRC Week celebrations.
The university said it is working closely with NACOC and other relevant state institutions to ascertain the facts and obtain accurate information regarding the matter.
According to management, investigations are still underway and it is important that due process is allowed to take its course without speculation or premature conclusions.
As part of measures to ensure safety and maintain order on campus, the university announced the immediate suspension of all remaining SRC Week programmes while a review is conducted into the circumstances surrounding the incident and the institution's event management procedures.
Central University reiterated its commitment to maintaining a secure academic environment and promoting values of discipline, responsibility and integrity among students.
Management further assured students, staff, parents, alumni and the general public of its full cooperation with the relevant authorities as investigations continue.
The university said it remains focused on safeguarding the welfare of the campus community while supporting efforts to establish the facts surrounding the case.
