The Central East Regional Police Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) has arrested 19 drivers for various traffic offences, including the unauthorised use of sirens, strip lights, and unapproved vehicle lamps.
The arrests formed part of an enforcement exercise conducted to curb traffic violations and enhance road safety across the region.
In a statement issued by the Central East Regional Police Command and copied to the Ghana News Agency, the operation also targeted motorists who drive on road shoulders and verges, as well as those using illegal lighting systems.
According to the statement, three drivers were arrested for the abuse of sirens and strip lights, 10 for the use of unapproved lamps, and six for driving on road shoulders.
The exercise was carried out at the Krispo City Traffic Light on the Kasoa–Winneba Highway and at Kasoa New Market along the Kasoa–Bawjiase Road.
During the operation, the offending drivers were cautioned and sensitised on road traffic regulations, with authorities warning against future breaches.
The statement further noted that the illegal sirens, strip lights, and lamps were removed and seized by the police for further action.
The Central East Regional Police Command reiterated its commitment to sustaining enforcement efforts while also educating the public to promote discipline and safety on the roads.
Motorists have been urged to comply strictly with traffic regulations and avoid behaviours that endanger other road users.
