The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has announced that it will begin a revenue enforcement exercise on Monday, June 22, 2026, targeting businesses and property owners who have failed to pay statutory fees.
In a statement issued on June 19, the Assembly said the exercise will focus on defaulters of Business Operating Permits, Property Rates, and rent due to the AMA. It warned that premises found to be in arrears will be locked and temporarily closed until all outstanding payments are settled.
The exercise will be carried out by authorised officers of the Assembly, supported by relevant security and enforcement agencies.
The AMA urged all affected ratepayers to settle their obligations promptly to avoid disruption to their businesses.
It reminded the public that payment of such fees is a legal requirement and a key source of funding for essential services, including infrastructure development, sanitation management, and public health interventions.
The Assembly further noted that penalties will be applied in line with the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936) and its by-laws.
It called for cooperation from businesses and property owners, stressing that the initiative is aimed at improving revenue mobilisation and supporting the development of a cleaner and more resilient Accra.
