The Kassena Nankana Municipal Assembly has disbursed the Disability Fund to Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) within the municipality to enhance their livelihoods, healthcare, and educational development.
The support was presented on behalf of the Assembly by the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Faustina Abulu.
Addressing beneficiaries, Hon. Abulu reiterated the government's commitment to promoting inclusion, dignity, and equal opportunities for all citizens, particularly vulnerable groups. She encouraged recipients to use the support responsibly to improve their living conditions and contribute meaningfully to the development of their communities.
She emphasized that the Assembly remains dedicated to ensuring that Persons with Disabilities are not excluded from the development agenda and will continue to implement programmes that empower them to lead productive and fulfilling lives.
As part of the livelihood support initiative, 70 beneficiaries engaged in various income-generating activities received GH¢3,000 each to help expand and strengthen their businesses.
Under the healthcare support component, the Assembly provided a range of mobility and assistive devices, including three tricycles for physically challenged beneficiaries, an artificial leg for one beneficiary, prosthetic repair services for another, as well as a wheelchair, a pair of crutches, and a walker for additional beneficiaries. These interventions are expected to improve mobility, independence, and overall quality of life.
The educational support package included a tape recorder for a visually impaired student, two hearing aids for hearing-impaired beneficiaries, and an electric bicycle for a student. The Assembly also fully covered the school fees and accommodation costs of a visually impaired student and provided support for 74 students in special schools to meet their basic needs.
Beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the government for the assistance and appealed to corporate bodies, organisations, and individuals to complement such efforts. They noted that many Persons with Disabilities continue to face economic challenges and limited livelihood opportunities, making such interventions crucial to their well being and development.
