Two injured as gas tanker crashes at Nkawkaw Apesika

Two people sustained injuries after a gas tanker was involved in a road crash at Nkawkaw Apesika in the Eastern Region on Thursday morning, triggering an emergency response from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).

The incident occurred at about 9:08 a.m., prompting personnel from the Mpraeso Fire Station to rush to the scene after receiving a distress call.

A five-member firefighting team led by Assistant Divisional Officer I (ADO I) Effah was immediately dispatched to undertake rescue operations and secure the area against any potential hazards associated with the tanker.

On arrival, the firefighters found the gas tanker involved in the accident, raising concerns over the possibility of a fire outbreak or gas-related danger. The crew swiftly cordoned off the area and initiated emergency safety measures to protect motorists, residents and other road users.

The rescue team successfully extricated and assisted two male victims who were affected by the crash. The injured men were later handed over to emergency medical personnel and transported by ambulance to the Nkawkaw Roman Hospital for treatment.

The Ghana National Fire Service said the operation was carried out successfully, with firefighters bringing the situation under control and preventing any further danger.

Although no fatalities were recorded, the accident caused concern among residents and commuters due to the involvement of a gas tanker, which posed a significant safety risk.

Authorities are yet to determine the cause of the crash, while investigations are expected to establish the circumstances that led to the incident.

The condition of the injured victims has not yet been disclosed.
