The Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) of Ghana STEM Technical School at Sawua of the Bosomtwe District has stepped in to address critical infrastructure challenges at the school, donating furniture and constructing a temporary kitchen facility to improve student welfare and create a more conducive learning environment.
The intervention follows concerns over inadequate furniture in the school's dining hall, a situation that had left many students without proper seating arrangements during meal times.
In a move widely praised by students, staff, and parents, the PTA donated 142 chairs and 70 tables or benches to furnish the dining hall and bring an end to what stakeholders had described as the institution's "no chair and table syndrome."
The association also constructed a temporary kitchen facility to support food preparation activities and enhance catering services for the growing student population.
Speaking during the presentation ceremony, PTA Chairman, Asante Krobea, said the intervention was motivated by the association's desire to support quality education and improve the welfare of students.
He noted that academic excellence thrives in an environment where students have access to the necessary facilities to support their daily activities.
"As parents, we have a responsibility to contribute meaningfully to the development of the school. We recognized the challenges facing the students and decided to intervene to help improve conditions," he stated.
Mr. Krobea further appealed to students and staff to maintain the furniture and kitchen facility properly to ensure they serve the school for many years.
Receiving the items on behalf of the school, Headmistress Naomi Owusu Aboagye expressed appreciation to the PTA for what she described as a timely and impactful gesture.
According to her, the lack of adequate furniture in the dining hall had become one of the school's major concerns, affecting the comfort of students during meals.
She said the donation would significantly improve the dining experience of students while contributing to their overall well-being.
Madam Owusu Aboagye also commended the PTA for constructing the temporary kitchen facility, noting that it would improve food preparation and service delivery as management continues to pursue permanent infrastructural solutions.
She assured the PTA that effective maintenance measures would be put in place to safeguard the facilities and ensure their longevity.
Students and staff welcomed the intervention, describing it as a major relief that would bring comfort, convenience, and dignity to meal times.
The latest support from the PTA highlights the indispensable role parent associations continue to play in complementing government efforts to improve educational infrastructure and enhance teaching and learning outcomes.
For Ghana STEM Technical School at Sawua, the intervention marks a significant step toward improving campus life and strengthening the foundation for academic excellence.
